SHAYLA OBRIGEWITSCH

Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, I am a designer and photographer in Halifax. I am a NSCAD University alumni (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) with a Bachelor of Design with a Major in Interdisciplinary Design—graduating with a Arthur Lismer Award for Academic Excellence. I've worked with NSCAD University as a design intern, interned with Melon Design in Halifax, and am currently working full time as a graphic designer. I also love to pick up freelance design projects on the side. Recipient of a Garrison Colin Allin Memorial Scholarship, I aim to specialize in visual and graphic print design, while continuing to develop skills in UI and UX. Throughout my studies, I have developed an interest for working with typography and layout. In 2015 I took the 2-day “Lettering for Logotype” Workshop taught by designer and calligrapher Kevin King at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, and I attended the 2017 RGD Design Thinkers Conference in Toronto. I've always had a passion for music and I continue a practice in photography, which I studied for a year at NSCAD prior to switching to the design program. My favourite photography is live music and scenic, and I photograph and write for the online music blog Canadian Beats. When I'm not busy designing or snapping photos, I love to play video games or watch comedy movies—or Disney and Harry Potter!
